Lounge Review: United Club Lounge, London Heathrow Terminal 2

United Club Lounge London Heathrow Terminal 2

It’s been a while since I last visited the United Club Lounge at London Heathrow Terminal 2, but I wanted to revisit as it used to be my favourite airport lounge at Heathrow (and there is plenty of competition). As such, this used to be my favourite Star Alliance lounge at Heathrow Terminal 2 out of the four Star Alliance lounges in this terminal (the other three are the Lufthansa lounge, Air Canada lounge and Singapore Airlines lounge). Opened in 2014, the space hasn’t been renovated, so I wanted to see if it felt dated after 11 years of use, and if it is still as good as it used to be.

The good news is it still feels spacious and modern, with plenty of seating, great food and a fantastic staffed bar.

United Club lounges in the US don’t have the best reputation (although the Polaris lounge is in a different league altogether) however I do think this London Heathrow outpost is probably the best “United Club” in the world.

So let’s dig into the United Club Lounge at London Heathrow Terminal 2, as see what it’s like in 2025.

Entrance to the United Club Lounge London Heathrow Terminal 2

Location of the United Club Lounge at London Heathrow

The United Club Lounge at London Heathrow Terminal 2 is located at the B Gates, next to gate 46. To reach the lounge, airside after security, follow the signs for the B Gates.

The walk under the apron takes roughly 10 minutes from the A Gates. There are travelators on the way there, but not on the way back, so allow plenty of time before boarding if your flight departs from the A Gates to walk back as it will take longer than the walk on the way there.

Once you reach the escalators going up at the B Gates, turn right at the top of escalators and the United Club Lounge is on the left, opposite gate 46.

United Club Lounge Heathrow Opening Hours

The London Heathrow United Club Lounge opens at 5am and closes at 10pm everyday.

The United Club Lounge opens an hour ahead of the first daily Heathrow Terminal 2 Star Alliance flights at 6am (Lisbon, Vienna and Zurich) and closes at the boarding time for the last departure of the night (Air China bound for Beijing).

Seating Options

There are plenty of different seating options in this lounge, whether you are travelling solo or with a group, working or travelling for leisure. It is definitely the largest of the four Star Alliance lounges at Heathrow Terminal 2.

My favourite place to sit in this lounge is the bar seating along the “longest bar at Heathrow”. This is a great spot to grab a pre-flight drink with panoramic views across the apron. This is my favourite spot especially for evening flights, as you are treated to a spectacular sunset and prime plane-watching.

There are also dining tables and banquette seating located around this lounge, as well as workstations and couches, suitable for solo travellers, couples and bigger groups.

I really like that all areas in this lounge are separated with these transparent blue glass dividers and indoor trees, which helps to divide up the space into small, private areas, yet this lounge still feels open plan and spacious.

Towards the rear of the lounge is a large area encapsulated by a circular divider, reminiscent of an engine cowling. This area is great for groups that want a bit of privacy from the main part of the lounge. There are also workstations with power outlets at the back of the lounge and private phone booths, perfect for getting some last-minute emails done or taking some calls before your flight.

I am also a big fan of all of the fabulous United Airlines and aviation memorabilia located on the walls.

Food Options

I do think the Heathrow United Club Lounge really does excel in the food department. Years ago, I remember an excellent breakfast spread, but today I had an evening flight. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options are well catered for here as well as halal options too. All food in the buffet area is labelled with ingredient lists and dietary suitability labelling too which is great to see. Here is what was available on my evening visit:

Dinner

  • Beef bourguignon
  • Chipotle bean chilli
  • Arroz Amarillo (Yellow rice)
  • Creamed potatoes
  • Breaded Pollock Fillets
  • Gastro Chunky Chips
  • Minted Mushy Peas
  • Chicken Milanese
  • Mushroom ragout
  • Sauteed greens
  • Roasted vegetable, goats cheese and caramelised onion wrap
  • Vegan cheese mayonnaise and scallion bagels
  • Coronation Chicken sandwich
  • Quinoa, apple, cucumber and edamame salad, with apple ginger dressing
  • Vegan coleslaw
  • Fresh fruit salad
  • Beetroot, carrot and onion salad
  • Bavarian pasta salad with honey mustard dressing
  • Ham and Salami
  • Selection of Cheese
  • Orange posset, raspberry and shortbread crumb

In all, a really comprehensive selection of hot options, sandwiches and fresh salads, which accommodate travellers with all types of dietary restrictions. Food wise, this is definitely one of the best Star Alliance lounges at Heathrow, though I’d give a slight edge to the Singapore Airlines Lounge – but just my personal preference.

Bar Selection

It seems to be a true luxury in 2025 for an airport lounge to have a staffed bar with cocktails available, a wide range of spirits, beer and wine. From years ago, I do remember the United Club Lounge used to serve Champagne (and so they should given how expensive transatlantic business class flights and Star Alliance flights from Heathrow are), but now no more. Gone is the champagne, and now prosecco and Rosé Cremant are served. Unfortunately, all other Star Alliance lounges at Heathrow Terminal 2 have also done the same, except for the Singapore Airlines lounge which does still serve Champagne.

Besides that, the “longest bar at Heathrow” does serve an extensive selection of beer, wine and spirits, with something for everyone including plenty of premium non-alcoholic options too. Here is the bar selection that was on offer:

Beer Taps

Beer

  • Beavertown Neck Oil Session IPA (on tap)
  • Amstel Bier (on tap)
  • Heineken (on tap)
  • Magners (Cider)
  • Becks

All in all, a very comprehensive beer, wine and spirits selection, with a wide range of cocktails available. A perfect spot for a sundowner while watching the sunset over the Terminal 2 apron.

Heathrow United Club Lounge Showers

I am a massive fan of the showers at the Heathrow United Club Lounge. The shower suites are spacious, they are cleaned between use, and there are plenty of them so I have never had to wait (although this might be different at peak times). They are modern, and come with Gilchrist & Soames Zero% toiletry amenities. The shower attendant also has dental kits, shaving kits, nail kits, combs and cotton swabs available.

Each shower suite is equipped with a hairdryer, toilet and fluffy white towels, as well as, most importantly, a big rain shower with a body shower handle too.

In my opinion, the Heathrow United Club Lounge has the best showers of any of the Star Alliance lounges at Terminal 2, so this would be my pick to freshen up before your flight or during transit.

How to Access the United Club at London Heathrow

Access to the Heathrow United Club is restricted to the following passengers, in line with other Star Alliance lounge access:

  • United Business Class and First Class passengers (no guests)
  • Star Alliance Business Class and First Class passengers (no guests)
  • Star Alliance Gold passengers (+1 guest)
  • United Club cardholders (+1 guest or immediate household)

You can also buy one-day United Club lounge passes to this lounge for $59 USD per person at the door or through the United mobile app. As of 2025, unfortunately, one-day lounge pass access is now limited to just 3 hours before the scheduled departure time, so keep that in mind if you have a long layover at Heathrow.

To note, if you plan on bringing a guest (Star Alliance Gold holders), they must be travelling on the same Star Alliance flight as the status holder.

Conclusion

Still a brilliant airport lounge, the United Club Lounge is amongst the best of the four Star Alliance Lounges at Heathrow. In my personal opinion, I do think the neighbouring Singapore Airlines Lounge nudges slightly ahead on food quality, actually serving champagne, and of course, Singapore Slings. But the United Club is a very pleasant way to relax before your flight, especially if you are flying long-haul.

The United Club definitely has the widest food and beverage selection of the four Star Alliance lounges, and the showers are certainly the best. It’s still worth checking out the Lufthansa Lounge, Singapore Airlines Lounge and Air Canada Lounge too if you have time.

Whether you are just looking to relax pre-flight or attempt a four-lounge lounge hop (Singapore Airlines, Lufthansa and Air Canada), the United Club at Heathrow Terminal 2 is certainly worth a visit.
